SCALAR LAUNCHES VIRTUAL DESKTOP BUNDLE
IT solutions integrator offers tailor-made virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) for higher-education

Toronto, Canada, January 25, 2011 –Scalar Decisions, an IT solutions integrator headquartered in Toronto, today launched its new Virtual Desktop Bundle – “VDI for Education”, targeting the higher-education sector in Ontario. The package offers colleges and universities the opportunity to implement a small-scale virtual desktop infrastructure in order to assess the potential ROI of a wider-scale rollout across campuses.

Scalar partnered with VMware and Wyse to offer the solution when they noticed a common pain point amongst their education customer base. “CIOs are telling us that students and faculty increasingly demand anytime, anywhere access to their desktops,” said Paul Kerr, CEO of Scalar Decisions, “but between stretched staffing levels and IT budgets, as well as security concerns, they are struggling to meet this need. This prompted us to offer a customized solution for this marketplace”.

VDI works by decoupling the operating system, applications and data from the end device and pushing those components into the datacentre where they can be more effectively managed. The resulting infrastructure reduces time and resources required to manage the environment, in many cases reducing capital and operational expenditure by 50%. Additionally, VDI is a green computing option, reducing energy consumption of classroom computers by 90%.

Scalar believes that by leveraging virtual desktops, IT departments can offer students any-device compatibility, as well as anytime, anywhere access. Kerr asserts that “the benefits for the educational sector will be huge, enhancing student and faculty productivity while at the same time reducing bottom-line budgets”.
