Virtualization

Our virtualization practice is focused on getting you the most from your IT systems. Our engineers have completed optimization projects including performance tuning, profiling and consolidation for numerous customers including financial trading exchanges, brokerages, computing clusters and virtualized infrastructures. This experience can be used to improve the management, consolidation, and performance of almost any application.

Our virtualization strategy is based on a proven three phased approach; Assessment, Architecture, and Implementation. The goals of the strategy are as follows:

Reduced facilities costs: Scalar will have insight into operational and facilities savings will be realized by reducing physical server requirements. Support, heating and cooling, and management costs can be reduced by moving older hardware on to newer, more efficient platforms, such as blades or shared architectures.

Reduced computer hardware costs: Hardware procurement savings can be realized once a standardized platform has been chosen. Mappings of workloads to hardware are developed as part of the strategy to ensure that ‘procuring before provisioning’ does not occur.

Reduced software costs: In addition to the savings achieved by reducing the number of servers, further savings may be possible by using a capacity on demand model. Growing your caching farm only when required may reduce the total number of licenses required.

Reduced complexity: Reducing separate systems into shared architectures may actually add complexity. When introducing VMware as the platform for x86 servers IT admins now have the ability to “create” servers with the click of a mouse.  This flexibility wreaks havoc on storage systems and adds to the CPU and Memory capacity required to run all of those virtual servers. Scalar will work with your organization to ensure the proper processes and procedures are in place to avoid “Virtual Server Sprawl”.

Increased Service Levels and Availability: Decreased complexity increases SLAs and availability, provided the systems are architected with availability in mind. Scalar will work to ensure that systems which require increased availability will be taken into consideration during the architecture phase. Daily management tasks such as patching and upgrading will be easily achieved through the use of management suites which can push out packages to as many servers as required.

Improved computing resource allocation: With enhanced management capabilities in a consolidated and virtualized environment, your organization will enable the on demand allocation of resources. Leveraging VMware’s VMotion and Dynamic Resource Sharing, your organization will have the ability to allocate resources to the businesses processes that require them.

Reduced staffing costs: Using dashboard-like management interfaces a single administrator will now have a much broader view of the servers he/she is responsible for. These management interfaces gives the ability to monitor many systems, and only be notified when a system is acting outside of its “desired norm”.  This will allow your organization the opportunity to repurpose or reduce staffing costs.

Our proven consolidation methodology and approach will provide your organization with an offering that introduces current technologies, mitigates risk, and ensure success.

Scalar's Virtualization Products

Virtualization and Consolidation Strategy

This in depth review of your server infrastructure will give you an analysis of your current state as well as a 5 year plan. Risk can be mitigated by adopting virtualization as servers are retired. This slower adoption rate also gives your administrators time to build policies and procedures around the provisioning of virtual servers, a step crucial to help avoid "virtual server sprawl".

By taking advantage of virtualization new environments can be quickly created, a critical step in reducing time to market for new products, services, or lines of business.

Virtualization Readiness Assessment

Deploying virtualization is often considered the first step towards data center automation. This readiness assessment will determine how much of your environment can be virtualized. The assessment will provide technical and financial justifications for the introduction of virtualization into your environment.

Data Centre Automation Strategy

This end-to-end study of your entire IT infrastructure encompasses servers, applications, storage, networking, security, and web presence. By looking at automation as a whole processes for network, server, and storage provisioning can be tied together, thus further reducing adminstrative tasks for the design, implementation, and management of your entire infrastructure.

Scalar's Key Virtualization Partners

Why Scalar?

Virtualization isn’t always as simple as it sounds. We understand interoperability – leveraging technologies like virtualization can add a lot of complexity to your environment, we have the technical skills to mitigate risk when introducing shared storage, collapsed networks, and shared compute resources.

You need the best technologies and the knowledge to implement them. Our partners make us stronger – we’ve developed partnerships with key technologies all with the aim of increasing the amount of datacenter automation in your infrastructure. Our partners give us access to product roadmaps that we leverage when developing long term strategies for your organization.

Knowledge is useless without experience. Not only do we know about the products that help you do more with less, but we also deploy the solutions we recommend. This end-to-end approach ensures that all of your needs are met and a continuous flow of information from design to deployment will make you more comfortable with such large projects as virtualization.
